Dental Supervisor - Dental Center

The Dental Center is a collaboration with the Delta Dental Foundation, U of M Health-Sparrow, and the U of M School of Dentistry to provide care for underserved populations: low-income children, people with disabilities, and veterans. Through the U of M Dental Residency Program, third- and fourth-year residents of the dental school provide the dental care, switching between the roles of dental hygienist and dentist. The students are overseen by dental supervisors, local dentists who volunteer their time to help patients receive the care they need.

If you are a dentist interested in volunteering, please contact  [email protected].

Family Mentorship - Refugee Services

Family Mentors are concerned and compassionate community members dedicated to introducing newly arriving refugees to a welcoming and safe community network that provides supplementary resettlement support services.

Family Mentors are placed with appropriate client families through agreement with our Volunteer Manager and work with the client and their Case Manager to design their service program based on the individual needs of each client. The Family Mentor experience is a three to fourth month commitment. This time frame benefits both the client and the volunteer. This is an adequate amount of time for the volunteer to assist the client with adjusting to life in Lansing but ensures that a relationship of dependence is not formed.

The goal for all CCIEC clients is self-sufficiency. The Family Mentor is to act as a support as clients learn to navigate life for themselves. A family mentor does not do things for the client but teaches the client the skills to do for themselves. The candidates should be self-starters who are comfortable in situations with cultural and language barriers.
